Within the Institute, the Center for International Relations focuses on the activities aimed at enhancing and developing cooperation as well as fostering dialogue in the field of international relations among non-governmental organizations, prominent public figures, regional leaders, government organizations and states within the international community, other scientific institutes and other organizations, as well as among prominent individuals with a special emphasis on developing regional initiatives in South East Europe, European integration and further expanding Euro-Atlantic cooperation.
Globalization and the growing use of new technologies, the increasing availability of the Internet have greatly contributed to the importance of information, as well as to the pace at which these are spread, and affect and shape the political as well as the socio-economic reality.
There is a necessity for establishing a regional digital forensic center that would be situated in Montenegro with the main goal of strengthening the civil society and media sectors in both Montenegro and the Western Balkans region to counter the spread of fake news and disinformation campaigns aimed at destabilizing the region's democratic progress.
The Centre for Countering Terrorism and Violent Extremism is a part of the Institute for Security, providing multidisciplinary guidelines and practical support in terms of prevention of the terrorism and the rule of law, two key pillars of the effective fight against terrorism. The focus of the CCTVE research is on monitoring and indicating the trends in both terrorism as well as in the course of public discourse. The CCTVE also focuses on the topics related to the countering violent extremism, as well as to the activities of the criminal justice sector, and it also focuses on the aspects of the fight against terrorism in relation to human rights. The key project areas concern countering violent extremism, rule of law, foreign fighters, country and regional analysis, civil society engagement and victims’ voices, etc.
The Institute stimulates, encourages and perform both theoretical and practical scientific research which can be relevant and helpful in defining and implementing the foreign policy, defense and security policies of Montenegro, with the aim of informing, awareness-raising, encouraging diversity of opinions in these fields as well as strengthening the position of Montenegro on the international stage.
